The GoPro Mountain Games are in full force in Vail, CO this weekend (June 4th - 7th), and it isn't just humans getting in on the action...
While professional and amateur athletes from all over flood the Vail Valley for the weekend to compete in events such as x-country, extreme kayaking and bouldering, our canine best friends also compete every year at the games in a competition of their own...
The doggy sport is called dockjumping - and the event that goes down annually in Vail at the Mountain Games has become known as the DockDogs Outdoor Big Air Competition - and I certainly wish I was in the Vail Valley as I'm writing this to witness the competition first hand, or paw.
The rules for the big air of dogs is pretty straight forward. Directly from the GoPro Mountain Games website:
"The dog sprints down the dock runway, leaping off the end as its master throws the dog's favorite toy out in front. The canine with the longest measured distance wins."
It is essentially the doggy long jump. And one thing is for sure, it will definitely be on the Team SportLeash calendar next year ... Maybe we'll even enter a dog of our own...
Check out the preview video for the 2014 DockDogs Big Air Competition below ... And best of luck to all the dogs and dog owners competing for the 2015 title!
